1. Dimick/Crick
Some people have discovered this blog by searching for Dimicks and/or their ancestors, many of whom appear in Chapter Five of “Model City.” In hopes of attracting even more genealogy buffs with whom to trade information, I decided to post a good part of my family tree here — not only my father’s side, but my mother’s also. I am putting the Dimick family first, because it is the longest unbroken line that I have.
Most, if not all, Dimicks, Dimmicks and Dimmocks in America are descended from Elder Thomas Dimick (Dimmock, Dimock) (abt. 1604 – 1658) who emigrated to America from England in the late 1630’s and became a civic leader in the town of Barnstable, Mass. According to Dr. Alan R. Dimick, now retired from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, and the leading Dimick scholar in America, “The early history of Barnstable and Thomas Dimick cannot be separated….He was the leading man and in some way connected with all acts of the first settlers.”
Elder Thomas was one of the founders of Barnstable and served several terms as selectman. He also served as a judge, town officer, and, in 1650 was named Elder of the church of Barnstable. He was also on the Plymouth Colony Council of War and a Lieutenant of Militia in 1642.
According to some sources, he was a descendant of the Dymoke family, the hereditary King’s Champions. The King’s Champion would ride, fully armored into the coronation banquet at Westminster Hall after the crowning of a new king, toss down his mailed glove and challenge anyone to deny the right of the new king to rule. The post still exists today, although it is purely ceremonial, and a Dymoke still holds it.
My personal version of the Dimick lineage goes back well beyond Elder Thomas, but I am not including it here because I can’t verify its accuracy. I prefer to follow Dr. Dimick’s scepticism: “This line is mentioned and questioned in several sources, none of which offer references of documented vital statistics to definitely make him a descendant of this family.”
Aside from being a leading burn specialist, Dr. Dimick has made it a life-long quest to locate and connect every Dimick in the United States. His genealogy of all the Dimick/Dimmick/Dymoke/Dimock/Demick/Dymocke/Dymoche/Dimmock/Dimmock/Dimmuck/Dimuck descendants of Elder Thomas runs to more than 200 pages. It is available here as a four-part pdf file:
Note: Most descendants of Elder Thomas are also Mayflower descendants. Timothy Dimick, great-grandson of Elder Thomas, married Ann Bradford, great-granddaughter of William Bradford, a Mayflower passenger and the first governor of the Massachusetts Colony.
The last chart below is an outline descendant tree leading from Elder Thomas Dimmock to Steven C. Dimick. The first chart (continued on sub-pages) is an ancestor tree which not only leads from me to Elder Thomas, but also includes all of the other branches from my paternal line. The second chart is my paternal grandmother’s, which leads to a dead-end in the Cherokee Indian line.

Roy Alvin Dimick (1899 – 1968) married Daisy Lou Crick (1902 – 1966). They were divorced and Daisy remarried before I was born. Roy was tubercular and and alcoholic and also spent time in the federal penitentiary for making bootleg whiskey.

I didn’t know you were doing genealogy. My mother is a genealogist. My paternal line, Bolding is traced back to England. The most common spelling then was Bolling. Bolling Hall. The “d” was added in their early days in Virginia. I am a direct descendent of Pocahantas; my father’s, father’s father, etc. back. John Rolfe and Pochahantas only had one child, Thomas Rolfe and he had several children, one of whom married an ancestral grandfather. The Boldings are from Franklin county, Alabama. (Northwest) My father’s paternal lines are Janes and Mann.
On my mother’s side I am Irish from the Bryan line, Scottish from the Sutherland line, and English from the Humphrey line. My Sutherland pedigree is approved by the DAR, as are the Boldings. My mother was a DAR. She was the one in her unit who checked out other people’s pedigrees.

Hi–I am also a Dimmick (we spell it with 2 M’s) through my father’s mother, back to Thomas, same as you. My great gradmother was Cora Dimmick, daughter of Byron in Pennsylvania, and I am looking for information on the brother of Byron, Arba, who went to Texas after thr Civil War. I enjoyed seeing our family connections on your site.
